The Passenger Experience & Multi Modal Mobility
A world where travelling is convenient,
cost-effective, efficient and safe
thanks in part to integrated
intelligent systems.
IPTS stands for Intelligent Public Transport
Systems. It embraces all electronic systems and associated technologies
that make travelling by public transport safer, more efficient and more comfortable
for passengers and public transport operators alike. The IPTS conference is to provide
new tools for enhancing the passenger experience in public transport and
shaping multi-modal mobility: policy, theory & best practice demonstrations.
IPTS in Europe
Some 12,000 public transport operators serve more than 100 million passengers in
the countries of the European Union on a daily basis. As well as being a major social
and economic activity, public transport is also of strategic and political interest to
governments at all levels. It must in principle be able to compete with private
mobility options, such as cars, motor bikes, bikes and even walking. A prerequisite is
that public transport must retain or even increase its market share in the
transportation of people by making the ’product’ more attractive, reliable, safe and
efficient. IPTS Europe is a major contributor to this aim.
The passenger experience
The comfort and convenient travel of public transport passengers is becoming an
increasing issue in today’s transportation sector. To satisfy customer’s needs it is
inevitable for public transport operators to implement new and efficient technologies.
As products and solutions offered by IPTS suppliers require a high level of
explanation, it is important to communicate. Furthermore the market is filled with
pilots and interesting projects. To share information, knowledge and expertise a
dedicated event such as IPTS Europe is the right platform.
The Future of Multi Modal Mobility and Passenger Focus
Developments in mobility - both in a physical sense of the word and in the virtual
world - are continuing apace. And multi-modal transport, the combination of
different transportation types, is increasing in importance. Intelligent (Public)
Transport Systems - I(P)TS - have a crucial role to play in providing reliable and
efficient travel.
Furthermore the desires and needs of today’s travellers increase in importance for
public transport operators. But what are the wishes and requests of public transport
user’s? The IPTS Conference will try to answer this question and give ways leading to
a more convenient and satisfying transport service for both the operators and
passengers.
Modern Public Transport Technology in the Netherlands
The Dutch Public Transport Operators are first movers, when it comes to
implementing new technologies. Currently the authorities are busy implementing a
countrywide electronic ticketing system, the 'OV chipcard', planned to be finalised by
2008.
Furthermore a metro line, the North/South Line (Noord/Zuidlijn) is under
construction in Amsterdam to connect the historic city centre with the city’s North
and South districts. The estimated completion date is in 2012. The building site of
one of the new stations is directly in front of the RAI Exhibition centre. Thus this will
be a good opportunity to inspect this impressive project.

Amsterdam - the international transport hub
Starting as a 13th century fishing village on a river bed, today’s Amsterdam is a
major hub for business, tourism and culture. This multicultural city offers plenty of
great attractions and locations.
Coinciding with Intertraffic Amsterdam 2008.
